The United Nations Security Council issued a statement calling for a ban on North Korean companies in accordance with a resolution adopted three years ago. The statement was in response to North Korea’s testing of a long range missile recently. In a retaliatory move against the United Nation’s Security Council statement, North Korea’s Foreign Ministry issued a condemnation in the Korean Central News Agency.
The statement by the Foreign Ministry indicated that North Korea will reopen its Yongbyan nuclear power plant, which it had closed earlier after the Six Party talks. The Six Party talks involved Russia, US, China, Japan and South Korea. Meanwhile, the Security Council has directed the committee for sanctions against North Korea to submit its report within ten days.
